About Us

The Blackledgemusic,Inc. Story:

Blackledgemusic, Inc.’s mission is to present interesting chamber music performances in a variety of venues to educate and inspire a diverse audience. Blackledgemusic,Inc wishes to engage its audiences by presenting programs which differ from what audience members might consider 'concert hall' programs. We do this by using unusual combinations of instruments, or works of music which might normally not be heard outside a music school recital studio or major city concert venue. The concept was previewed in a recital financed by Helene Rosenblatt and presented as “Flute & Co.” in November of 2000 at the New Britain Museum of American Art. Blackledgemusic, Inc. and its consortium members  perform periodic concerts as Blackledgemusic, Inc. or  member consortium groups (Blackledge WWQ, Blackledge, Blackledge Flutes, Nutmeg Consort, Salmon Brook Trio Plus,  Rosewood Chamber Ensemble, Charter Oak Flutes and various BLACKLEDGE ensembles). Blackledgemusic,Inc. has been incorporated as a consortium of ensembles since 2002.

Our newest consortium member, Connecticut Flute Orchestra , began as an idea in 2016 to create a unique high level performing organization formed of professional-caliber flutists from all over Connecticut. Musicians with similar musical tastes, a desire for musical adventure, people who are kind and supportive of each other. These musicians began to collaborate to create musical experiences which inspire. CTFO utilizes approximately 14-20 flutists for its concerts. The instrumentation includes piccolo, Eb flute, C flute, alto flute, bass flute, contrabass flute, and subcontra bass flute. The 1st annual concert was held 9/16/2017, the 2nd which featured a student composers work and works by Connecticut composers for Flute Orchestra was held 9/16/2018 and the 3rd 9/8/2019 and was focused around celebrating differences.

Connecticut Flute Orchestra will continue as an annual event, Blackledgemusic, Inc. concerts will happen as we can fund them (performers are paid or receive an honorarium). We will continue to seek out venues which can introduce new audiences to concert music.
